Description

Melanotan 2 (MT-II) is a melanocyte-stimulating hormone (a-MSH) analog that induces skin tanning by stimulating melanocytes to produce the protective pigment melanin. The melanin pigment protects the skin from harmful UV rays (sunburn protection, melanoma). MT-II has an additional effect of increasing libido (increased sexual desire), and also has pronounced anorexic properties – it reduces appetite.

In May 2010, the Italian Medical Agency (AIFA – Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco) became the first public health organization to approve MT-II as a therapeutic agent for Italian citizens to reduce painful sensitivity to sunlight.
